Deliberate

************

I’m still working with my doctor to stabilize my blood sugar through medication (pills, not insulin). In the meantime, I had an eye exam yesterday, complete with dilation (ick). So first off, there’s no diabetic retinopathy, no macular degeneration, no neo-vascularization, and my intraocular pressure is good.

But here’s the weird bit—it seems that the change in my blood sugars have affected my vision in a weird way. The glasses prescription I’ve been wearing for years and years and years is suddenly twice as strong as it needs to be. My vision is getting BETTER! Who’da thunk? So once my blood is stable, I can get a new prescription. Until then, I’ll just get used to having low-grade headaches from straining to see (or I’ll take my glasses off when I’m working up-close).

I’m overwhelmingly busy at work all of a sudden. I suppose that’s what happens though when you take off 5 days unexpectedly in a week and a half. Crap.

Speaking of days off work—since I went to the eye doctor yesterday and had my eyes dilated (which meant I couldn’t drive or work on the computer), I ended up not going back to work. My mom and I hung out together for part of the early afternoon, then we picked Em up at school together and went on a couple errands. I love hanging out with Em. She’s so funny and bubbly and vibrant.

On the way to run errands, we passed by a building with a huge billboard on the side proclaiming “Girls! Girls! Girls! Ladies Night Every Tuesday!”. Em read the sign out loud and then very excitedly asked, “Mom—can I go?!”

I did NOT laugh as I explained to her that it didn’t start until a full hour and a half after her bedtime. She was kind of bummed, but accepted that excuse.

Later in the afternoon, once I could see well enough to drive, I brought Em with me to my LYS to buy a new set of needles. On the way there, we walked past a very cool looking hair place, so on the way back, we popped in to see if they took walk-ins. They do, so we got impromptu haircuts. I just got a trim, but Em got a full-on pixie cut for the summer. It’s so cute! (Pictures? Yeah, maybe later. What? It’s just a haircut people.)

And finally:

Emily’s best friend’s parents “got into a divorce with each other”. I think that’s a perfect way to say it, don’t you?
