The other night

Emily had brushed her teeth and washed her hands and gotten ready for bed. As I lay next to her in bed, cuddling her to sleep, she put her hand on my cheek.

The warmth of her breath, the cool of her hand, with the faintly soapy scent, the contented sighs that escaped as she fell into sleep, made me wish all moments with our children were as gentle and magical.

I love being her mom.
