Random Bits

I have discovered the secret to a clean bathroom. Throw away all your fancy cleaners and scrubbers, all you need is a toothbrush, some bleach, and a bit of elbow grease. Can I just tell you, both the bathrooms in my house look great! (But man does my wrist hurt.)

I was so pleased on Friday night to find a gas station where I only paid $2.37. It’s right around the corner from my best friend’s house, so I should be there often enough to take advantage of it on a regular basis. Cheaper even than Costco gas! This morning on NPR, Morning Edition announced that gas prices are scheduled to go down this month, but that California remains the highest and San Francisco specifically (and surrounding areas) are the highest of the high. A gallon of gas in The City costs, on average, $2.63. I feel like I got away with something—or like I was let in on this great secret! Instead of paying more than $40 for a tank, I only paid $32 and change. Woo Hoo!

In other “my god I can’t believe I live in such an expensive place” news, I saw an ad in yesterday’s Real Estate section that made me choke on my coffee: $299K for a 2 bedroom MOBILE HOME! Three HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS for a fucking Mobile Home! Geez…

Oh, and in other “Woo Hoo” worthy news, my mom has decided to join me in law school. I’m so excited! You may recall that it’s a 4 year program—she’ll be 72 when she sits for the bar at the end of 4 years. Hee hee!

Speaking of moms… yesterday was wonderful. Emily got me a gorgeous hairclip, reminiscent of the “1928” line of jewelry. I totally love it! (Thanks, Mom) And she also got me (thanks, Jessica) some really pretty earrings—but they’re silver, so, um… I dunno.

We’ve been roommates for 9 years now and she doesn’t know that I don’t wear silver, but I can’t really complain, I only discovered last week that she doesn’t like pie. They’re lovely earrings and it was a beautiful thought.

Oh, and Em’s dad called to wish me a happy Mother’s Day. It was weird ‘cause he didn’t have anything to say, but I thought that was very nice of him.

Em kept finding things in her room, “wrapping” them up in her doll-bed sheets, and bringing them to me as presents throughout the day. I sure do love her generous spirit. I’m a proud mom. She also let me sew—I sewed all day long with only very few interruptions, and those were of my own doing. Happy, happy day.

Oh yeah, I also took a bunch of pictures of some of my favorite scrapbook pages, but now I can't find my camera cord. Hahaha! I'll post them over on my pictures blog whenever I can.

Final thing for now: I’m working hard on finding a new job. I don’t want to go into the details of it except to say that the people and the place I’m targeting don’t actually have an opening for me. I’m trying to convince them to create it. Keep happy thoughts for me on this one. If you pray, please do. Whether I get it or not, when this part is over I’ll tell you what I’ve done.

As always, my comments are open for you all to enjoy, but I can’t read them or reply unless someone copies & emails them to me, so please forgive me for not responding. Love you all.
