Little Bits

We got DirecTV installed on Friday, and bought the optional “Tivo” package. Oh my god—we have died and gone to television heaven.

*********

I was watching Sesame Street with Emily yesterday. I don’t know why it surprised me, but Ernie’s voice isn’t the same. On reflection, that makes sense, but the little girl in me was quite disappointed. I thought of Lovisa though, 'cause Muppets are cool and she's dialed in.

*********

At some point during the show, the word “SNAIL” was written on the screen—no picture, just the word. Emily said, “Ssss”, “ssssnnnaaeelll—SNAIL. Mommy, that says snail.” HOLY SHIT! I asked her what she said but she got uncomfortable and wouldn’t answer, so since we now how Tivo, I rewound live TV back to the snail screen. “What’s that, Emily?” Again, she said, “Snail. You know that Mommy.” No picture folks, just letters. She’s not yet four. I have a feeling by the time she’s seven, I’m going to be hopelessly sophomoric next to her genius.

Speaking of Emily, she used the toilet on Saturday. Well, she’s been about half way toilet trained for a few months now, but always asks for a diaper to poop. This time, she didn’t. I didn’t even know she was taking care of business; when she yelled for me to help her in the bathroom, that was the first I knew of it. Of course I made a huge deal about it, but that embarrassed her, so I wasn’t allowed to tell anyone “until after free [three] times”. I thought of Celti, whose proud boy did the same recently.

Mom and I watched “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, “Terminal”, and “Win a Date with Tad Hamilton”. No commentary on any except to say that I’m glad I didn’t have to pay for the third one (we Tivo’d it).

On Saturday, while I went to work for a few hours, my mom took Emily to see the "SpongeBob Square Pants" movie. Who imagined SpongeBob would be too violent for an almost-four-year-old? Neither of them liked it. Oh well. I thought of Regan, 'cause, well, she's just a SpongeBob kinda gal.

I read a number of articles on Alzheimer's this weekend, which made me think of AJ and Brighton, as well as a rather long essay about Rachel Carson, which made me think of Dastard and Sloth. None of you have been far from my thoughts these last few days.

Last week I wrote that we ordered a countertop and purchased base cabinets for our sewing room. We picked up the counters on Tuesday and I installed them on Saturday. When the room is all the way back together, I’ll post pictures (probably tomorrow or Wednesday). It’s freaking amazing!

Our department is going offsite for the afternoon today and Tuesday through Friday, I’ll be in training. Also, the computer at home is down again until the sewing room is back together. I’ll check in as often as I’m able to, but I don’t expect to be around much this week. Have a good one!
