Random Friday

Stealing a page from Lovie-Poppet's page and posting a list of miscellaneous stuff for a Friday.

My roommate Jessica and I took a like from Jay and Silent Bob—we refer to each other as “Heterosexual Life Partners”. She told me one time that if she was gay, she’d be in love with me. I think it’s a nice sentiment but sometimes I feel a little guilty that I don’t feel the same way about her. Still, she’s a great roommate.

Five developmentally disabled adults live next door to us (with a family). Last weekend as my mom and I were painting the house, one of them came by to chat. He mentioned that he might be moving so he could be closer to his sister. I would guess this man is in his early 50s; I can’t begin to imagine the changes he’s seen in his lifetime about how developmentally disabled people are treated. How nice for him. He’s a very pleasant man and I might miss chatting with him on Sunday evenings when he brings the garbage and recycling out to the curb.

I always, always sleep with one foot sticking out of the covers (usually my left foot). No matter how cold it is. In fact, even when I was in labor, I had one foot out of the covers. Eric has told me that people would come along periodically and cover my feet, but I would then kick the sheet off my left foot. He thought it was funny.

Emily was very proud to sing the “Daisy” song for you guys the other day. Last night, she said, “Mommy, remember when I sang the song on the answering machine for your friends?” (yes, Mike, her question reminded me of your post!) “Of course I remember, Honey. What about it?” “Did they like it Mommy?” (genuine concern on her face and in her voice). Oh so sweet—I told her you all loved it. :)

Does anyone remember the 80s band The Thompson Twins? One of their hits was a song called “Doctor, Doctor”. In part, it goes like this:

I have a picture pinned to my wall
An image of you and of me
And we’re laughing, we’re loving it all.
Doctor, doctor, can’t you see I’m burning, burning
Oh doctor, doctor, is this love I’m feeling?
Oh, hold me now. Warm my heart
Warm my cold and tired heart.
Stay with me,
Let loving start, let loving start.
You ask if I love you, what can I say?
You know that I do
and that this is just one of those games that we play.

There’s more, but I can’t remember off the top of my head—this is just the part that keeps circling in my brain ever since September 2nd. Only instead of “Doctor, doctor”, I hear “Dastard, Dastard”. Haha! I’m a little embarrassed to admit that, but I think it’s kind of funny and I think there are other women here who will agree.

My computer is still down at home, so I’ll check comments today at work when I can, then I won’t be back until Monday. You all have a good weekend. Play nice with each other.
xoxo
